We started the register tape advertising in October of 2024. Honestly, we were hesitant to sign up because we figured nobody really looked at the back of receipts. We’ve been here for over 40 years and have never considered doing the program. The only reason we finally did it was because so many of the nearby businesses were getting great results. We thought, what the heck, it’s a tax write-off anyway, and what’s the worst that could happen? At first, it was slow. We didn’t get our first coupon until about 3 weeks in. But by month 3, we were averaging 5 coupons a week. By month 6, it was 10. By month 9, it was 20. And by month 11, we were getting more than 30 coupons a week. Even better, about one in five of those customers were visiting us for the very first time. For a restaurant that’s been around for 40 years, that’s huge because your regulars don’t last forever. You always need new faces coming through the door. Our quality speaks for itself, so the biggest win for us was simply getting new people to try us. We’re averaging more than twenty new customers a month because of this program. What surprised me most was that in the beginning, it was mostly older people using the coupons, but around month eight or nine, we started seeing a lot of younger customers in their 30s coming in. I guess the saying is true, with this generation, you have to tell them 100 times before they finally listen. If you want my honest opinion, I don’t have money to waste, and we just renewed for another year. That should tell you everything you need to know.
