Tell us about your employees.

We currently have 15 employees. The 2 current owners started as sales staff and moved their way to completing the purchase of Wasatch Touring from the founders summer of 2022.

What is the story behind your business?

Wasatch Touring was built on a dream of Dwight and Charlie Butler’s to share the joy of exploring Utah’s mountains, waterways and rocks with those around them. They started the business in 1972 as a sales and rental center open during winter months, working construction during the summer months to make ends meet. With time, they were able to hire employees, open year round selling bikes, skis and kayaks with a full service department and rental fleet to support products they sold. In 2022 Dwight and Charlie sold the business to Lisen Green and Dylan Timmer, both longtime employees who carry the same vision for Wasatch Touring as Dwight and Charlie. Lisen has been with Wasatch Touring since 2008. Starting as a sales associate, she quickly moved positions in the business including, being a key buyer and Office Manager for the store for years. Dylan started in 2013 as a sales associate and has been the face of Wasatch Touring for years. If you’ve bought a bike, had a ski waxed or a boat mended in the last 10 years, there’s a good chance that Dylan’s warm greeting, calm professionalism, dedication to service, and hat played a pivotal role in making your experience the best that it could be.

Tell a story about a great customer experience.

My favorite story is welcoming a new customer into the store who has no intention of buying merchandise from us. He just wants to look at what we have, compare prices and get sized for that bike he is buying online. As I strike up a conversation with him about where his last ride was, what he is currently riding and what he is looking for in his next bike, we discussed what I had available and why I would choose this bike over an online retailer. I explained the perks we offer with any bike sale and how our service department is here to help with any issues that may arise with your gear. He decided a week later to buy the bike from us, his local bike shop. He has been a loyal customer of ours ever since.

Explain why a customer should consider your business instead of going to a competitor.

Wasatch Touring was built on customer service. We have highly trained sales staff who enjoy using the gear we sell just as much as you do. When you walk into Wasatch Touring you feel like you’re part of the family and are not pressured into buying something that doesn’t fit your needs. We are here to help you get on the correct gear the first time.

What extra services do you offer that people might not know about?

We offer full bike service on all makes and models of bikes as well as a full service ski shop, mounting AT skis and waxing and base repair.
