What Services or Products does your business provide?

We provide compassionate, concierge counseling services for children, teens, adults, couples, and families in our community. Our providers offer individual counseling, marriage and family therapy, EMDR therapy, grief and trauma recovery, christian counseling, and specialized support for those navigating difficult relationships. Our services are provided in-office and via telehealth. Our concierge memberships keep ongoing counseling support consistent and affordable. We also host wellness retreats to support prevention, resilience and deeper healing. Everything we offer is designed to help people feel supported, find stability, and regain hope in their daily lives.

What types of advertising are you currently doing and what types of advertising have been most successful for you in the past? (It’s ok if it isn’t IndoorMedia 😊)

This is our first time partnering with IndoorMedia, and we’re excited to expand our local presence. Currently, we rely on our main website, the Psychology Today directory, our Google Business profile, and strong community referrals. In the past, we’ve also advertised in local magazines, hosted a podcast, insurance panel directories, and participated in Chamber of Commerce events. Our most successful sources of new clients continue to be our Google reviews and word-of-mouth recommendations from clients, families, healthcare providers, and community partners.

How many employees does the business have? Are there any special employees that have a unique story? Are there any employees who have been with the company a particularly long time?

Fundamental Foundations Counseling Center is a small, highly specialized practice with a team of six dedicated clinicians, each bringing unique training, experience, and heart to the clients we serve. The practice was founded in 2011 by Dr. Shahidrah Cowgill, LPC-S, NCC, who has over 18 years of clinical experience and is known for her expertise in trauma recovery and EMDR intensives. Her vision of providing compassionate, high-quality mental health care continues to guide the mission of our center.

In addition to Dr. Cowgill, our team includes:

Kyla Green, LPC-A, who specializes in marriage counseling, couples work, and Christian counseling. She supports partners seeking deeper connection, healing, and faith-centered guidance.

Chris Nelms, LPC-A, who works extensively with individuals recovering from narcissistic abuse, toxic relationship dynamics, and emotional trauma. He is also passionate about supporting Men’s Mental Health and Adolescent Boys Mental Health

Dr. Makesha Givs, LPC-A, who supports Women’s Mental Health and adults through Christian counseling, anxiety, depression, and life transition challenges.

Tyler Dews, LPC-Associate, who specializes in ADHD, neurodivergence in teens and adults.

Sarah Aryantungisa, Clinical Intern, who focuses on teens, young adults, and neurodivergent individuals—as well as the caregivers who support them.

Together, our clinicians blend compassion, expertise, and a shared commitment to helping clients feel supported, understood, and empowered in their healing journeys.

In your own words, please write a paragraph about how the owner or partners got interested in starting this business. Is the owner the first person in their family to own a business? Did they have a career before starting this business? Were there any specific challenges they faced in opening or keeping the business open?

Dr. Shahidrah Cowgill founded Fundamental Foundations Counseling after years of working in private healthcare, education, non-profits, and early childhood intervention. She saw the need for a place where people could receive truly personalized and compassionate care. As the first business owner in her family, she stepped out in faith and opened the practice in 2011. During the pandemic, the practice experienced rapid growth and major transitions, including a move from Frisco to Little Elm. Long waitlists and high demand made it clear that clients needed deeper, more focused support, prompting the shift to a concierge model in 2024. This change allowed Dr. Cowgill and her team to provide the high-quality, in-person, specialized services they are known for today, including EMDR intensives and wellness and resiliency programs.

Tell a story about a great customer experience.

Because confidentiality is at the heart of what we do, we don’t share client stories—but one of the greatest compliments we receive is when a client sends a family member or friend our way. Over the years, we’ve witnessed something truly meaningful: as clients begin to heal, grow, and feel supported, they naturally become advocates for mental health in their own circles. We often hear, “I told my sister she has to come see you,” or, “I finally convinced my friend to get help because of how much this has changed my life.” These moments remind us that the work happening in our office reaches far beyond one person—it strengthens families, improves relationships, and creates a ripple effect of healing in our community. For us, those heartfelt referrals are the clearest sign that we’re making a real difference.

Explain why a customer should consider your business instead of going to a competitor.

Clients choose our practice because we offer a level of personalized care that is difficult to find. We see clients in-person and can accommodate virtual sessions as needed. Our concierge model allows us to provide extended sessions, no wait times, direct access to your clinician, and highly specialized services such as EMDR intensives, trauma recovery programs, Christian counseling options, and support for the entire family if needed. Each clinician on our team brings advanced training and a unique specialty, allowing us to match clients with the right provider from the start. Most importantly, our clients feel genuinely seen, supported, and understood—many tell us they’ve made more progress here in a few months than they did in years elsewhere. We take the time to truly know the people we serve, and that level of care sets us apart.

What extra services do you offer that people might not know about? For example, restaurants might offer catering and Car Washes might offer shampooing of seats and carpet.

In addition to counseling and EMDR services, we also offer Thrive Unleashed Retreats, our signature wellness and resiliency experiences designed for adults and couples seeking deeper healing, clarity, and restoration. These retreats blend movement and mobility work with self-assessment, faith-based reflection, nervous system regulation, and restorative time in nature—all within a safe and intimate small-group setting. Many people are surprised to learn that we provide these immersive experiences, which give participants the chance to step away from daily stress, reset their minds and bodies, and return home with renewed strength and practical tools for long-term wellbeing. We also offer digital programs, guided workbooks, and other resources that support clients between sessions and help them continue their growth at home.
