What Products or Services does your business provide?

We teach a wide variety of martial arts at our studio. Our foundational art is Taekwondo which is known for its powerful kicks, speed, and agility. We emphasize a grounded approach to our art which includes using upper body techniques, knees, elbows, throws, and takedowns to make sure we are well rounded in our approach. In addition, we also teach weapons like sword, bo, kama, and nunchaku (nunchucks). Lastly, we like to round out our higher level students with elements from other arts including grappling, Muay Thai, Boxing, and Stick Sparring.

Tell us about your employees.

Our Lantana Location has 9 employees. Brittany Cleve is our General Manager/Program Director. Christian Cleve is the Chief Instructor. They have been married for 2 years now. They are an amazing team and share their love of martial arts to all the students there. We also have long time employees who started out as students when they were younger children. Ian Francis, Kalyn Dakin, and Nicolas Roghair are amazing members of our instructor team who have been around for many years. We’ve also added Jack Richards who brings great experience and care and Matthew Lewis who brings some awesome tumbling and gymnastics background to our specialty and demo team classes. Lastly, there is Amanda and Kevin Nevels who have owned the school since November of 2020. We bought the school from long time friends who decided to take their life in a different direction and join the military.

What is the story behind your business?

Amanda and Kevin opened their first Martial Arts school in Coppell in May of 2010. Kevin was a lifelong Martial Artist who wanted to spread his knowledge to a new generation of young people. From 2010 to 2019 they grew the Coppell location to over 400 members and in 2019 they opened their second location in Las Colinas. In 2020 they had the opportunity to purchase the Lantana School from a couple who they consider as life long friends. The pandemic was in full swing at this time and it did put some challenges in-front of them but it was the right decision to make sure the Lantana school not only survived but thrived as it is doing now.

Tell a story about a great customer experience.

There was a young man who trained at our school who had struggles with focus and attention. We could tell that his mom wasn’t sure what to do so she decided to enroll him in classes. She struggled to keep him consistent with his class attendance and that did not help improve his growth in the martial arts. Our chief instructor sat down with mom and listened to her issues, talked about the importance of consistency and accountability. We finally got mom and the team on the same page and the young man flourished and eventually earned his Black Belt even though there were set backs along the way. This is a perfect story to illustrate how we work with people to not just get a belt but to teach them the skills, mindset, and determination that is necessary to be successful not only in the martial arts school but in life.

Explain why a customer should consider your business instead of going to a competitor.

Teaching Martial Arts is not just a job for us. We understand the responsibility of what we are trying to instil in all of our students. When a parent comes to us and tells us how their child is being bullied or doesn’t have the confidence to be their best in life, we take that extremely seriously. Martial Arts has helped us forge a path of success in this life and we are trying to share that path with others. I believe that the amount of care, thoughtfulness, and tenacity that we bring to our students separates us from others.

What extra services do you offer that people might not know about?

We offer a variety of services in addition to our excellent martial arts classes. Birthday Parties, Day Camps, Parents Night Out, Self Defense Classes and just some of the extra things that we offer.
