Polanquito’s menu has delicious food from many different regions of Mexico including Acapulco, Veracruz, Michoacan, Baja California, Puebla, Mexico City, Yucatan, Guerrero and Oaxaca.

 

Polanquito is place where you can experience authentic Mexican food without having to leave Houston. And, if you have been to Mexico or are a native Mexican, Polanquito will bring you home. Polanquito is named after Polanco, a trendy neighborhood in Mexico city filled with upscale gastronomy.

We have 7 employees.

In your own words, please write a paragraph about how the owner or partners got interested in starting this business. Is the owner the first person in their family to own a business? Did they have a career before starting this business? Were there any specific challenges they faced in opening or keeping the business open?

Chef Diego Navarro was born in Mexico City, Mexico and was raised in the state of Veracruz. Since a very early age he knew that gastronomy was his passion. He began making sushi in middle school and selling it on the playground. He studied cuisine at the Culinary Institute of Mexico in Puebla, Mexico, and graduated in 2010. He went on to work in the kitchen of one of the most luxurious resorts in Mexico, the Rosewood Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen. Soon after, he got his Master’s Degree in the top culinary school in the world, the Basque Culinary Center in northern Spain. He became a small business owner when he opened Polanquito with his brother, Santiago Navarro in April of 2019. Chef Diego is dedicated to bringing all Houstonians and those visiting Houston a Little Piece of Mexico.

“The staff is extremely friendly and so helpful explaining all the diverse and intricate dishes.The acapulco shrimp cocktail was refreshing and perfect for a hot summer day. The chilaquiles are to DIE for and the best remedy for hangovers. The chicken with mole is my favorite dish and oh man, they absolutely nailed it! BUT the best part was dessert, the empanadas with rice pudding are worth all the hype. And of course, you can’t forget to try the Horchata latte is an absolute game changer. It’s a family owned restaurant and you can definitely feel it in the comfortable and familiar atmosphere.
