What Products or Services does your business provide?

Mak Mak Thai Cuisine is a fast-casual Thai restaurant offering authentic Thai dishes made from family recipes. We serve everything from classic curries and noodles to exclusive items like our Mak Mak Nam Tok and Dry Khao Soi. All dishes are made fresh, fast, and with no tipping required—we believe in fair pay and great service. We offer dine in, takeout, and catering.

What types of advertising are you currently doing, and what types of advertising have been most successful for you in the past?

We’ve seen the most success through local advertising and word-of-mouth. Being involved in the community and consistently delivering great food and service has helped us build a strong base of loyal customers. One of the biggest drivers of growth has been our focus on collecting online reviews.

Since we have a no-tipping policy, we kindly ask guests to leave a review instead of a tip. This not only reinforces our values but also helps new customers find us online and trust the experience we provide. Our reviews have become one of our most effective and authentic forms of marketing.

Are there any certifications, awards, or media recognition that your business has received?

Yes! Mak Mak is certified by the Utah Department of Health and operates with high standards of cleanliness and food safety.

We’ve also received several awards and recognitions since opening:

• Best of Northern Utah – 1st Place Thai Restaurant (2024)
• Best of Davis County – 1st Place Thai Restaurant (2024)
• Finalist in Best of SLC 2025 in both the Thai Restaurant and Fast Casual categories

In addition to awards, we’ve been featured by local food creators like Utah Food Finds and Chefs Kiss, and we continue to receive strong support and recognition from the community and local small business organizations.

Tell us about your employees.

We currently have a team of around 15 employees, including front-end staff and our kitchen team. One standout is Nadda Seangsuwan, who not only owns the restaurant but is also the heart behind all the recipes—she’s a Thai immigrant sharing her food with the community she now calls home.

What is the story behind your business?

Mak Mak was born from a desire to share authentic Thai food with the Bountiful community. Osmond Seangsuwan, one of the co-owners, grew up with his mom’s incredible Thai cooking. After running other businesses in Bountiful, he wanted to bring something personal and meaningful to the area. While none of the business partners had restaurant backgrounds, their passion for food, culture, and community drove them to launch Mak Mak in just 3 months. It was a huge learning curve, but the desire to build something that reflects their roots—and serves the people of Bountiful well—kept them going.

Tell a story about a great customer experience.

While visiting Utah on a ski trip, a chef and his family—visiting all the way from Missouri—were looking for good food to enjoy during their stay. They discovered Mak Mak Thai Cuisine from our reviews and decided to stop in for lunch.

After dining with us, he left a glowing review, calling the food “amazing cuisine” and recommending the Mak Mak Nam Tok and our crispy fried chicken (Nam Tok). He gave us a 5/5 for food, service, and atmosphere, and said it was the best Thai food he’d had.

It was an honor to hear that kind of praise from someone in the culinary world, especially someone just passing through. It reminded us that great food speaks for itself—whether you’re from down the street or across the country.

What extra services do you offer that people might not know about?

We offer catering for parties, business lunches, and special events. We also run limited-time specials, collaborate with local creators and vendors, and host community events like our annual Songkran water festival and car meet. We love being involved with the community in creative, delicious ways!
